Shashi Tharoor Defends Operation Sindhoor Stance Amid Criticism | PothuKoya by Veloridge

Former Indian foreign minister Shashi Tharoor has maintained that his party did not violate any party line when he took a stance against the controversial Operation Sindhoor, an airstrike conducted by the Indian military in 2018. The controversy erupted following criticism from several opposition parties and media outlets who accused him of siding with the ruling party.
In his statement, Tharoor emphasized that he had acted in accordance with the party's principles and responsibilities as a public figure. He maintained that any stance taken by him was based on an independent judgment rather than political considerations or party loyalty. The controversial airstrike named after its then-chief architect Sunil Sindhu involved the use of cluster bombs and led to a significant international outcry, eventually condemned by India's government as illegal under international humanitarian law. The Operation Sindhoor affair has highlighted deeper divisions within Indian politics regarding military engagements, foreign policy, and public accountability.
